Dr.
Nancy Thomas joined Office of the Vice Provost for Multicultural
and International Affairs (OMIA) as Associate Vice Provost for
Multicultural and International Affairs, on January 5, 2002. Dr.
Thomas holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Harvard
University and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University
School of Law. She has served as Special Assistant to the President
for Legal and Policy Affairs at Western New England College’
Director of Listening to Communities, for the American Council
on Education; adjunct faculty member (teaching Legal Issues in
Higher Education) at the Graduate College of Education, University
of Massachusetts, Boston; Senior Associate at the New England
Resource Center for Higher Education; Associate at the law firm,
Halloran and Sage, Hartford, CT., and directs the Democracy Project
for the Study of Values in Higher Education, working with colleges,
universities, and educational associations to advance democratic
dialogue and practices on campus and in partnership with communities.
She is the author of a number of publications addressing diverse
issues in higher education, and has also served as a consultant
to several major foundations, community agencies, and study circles.
In short, Dr. Thomas brings a breath of experience to the position,
having worked with diverse groups at a national, state, and local
levels, on issues ranging from race relations to strategic planning.
She will serve on an interim basis and part-time for the next
six months until a national search can be organized.
