Multicultural
Enrollment
The University of Connecticut has over 26,000 undergraduate and
graduates students who come from diverse backgrounds and diverse
countries. The University is continues to increase the diversity
of its student body. In 1986, 7.9% of undergraduate students came
from minority groups (Asian Americans, Native Americans, African
Americans, and Latinos), but by the year 2003 that percentage
had increased to 17.4%. The percentage of undergraduate students
from underrepresented groups (Native Americans, African Americans,
and Latinos) has also increased from 5.5% in 1986 to 10.4% in
2002. Graduate students have also become more diverse. In 2002
just over 10% of graduate students came from minority groups and
just over 20% were international students. The gender makeup of
both graduate and undergraduate students is also diverse - just
over half of all students are women.
