Social
life and cultural experiences are integral part to the educational
experience at UConn. Cultural and academic support centers like
the International Center, Rainbow Center, the Asian American Cultural
Center, the Puerto Rican and Latino Cultural Center, the Women's
Center, and the African American Cultural Center play a pivotal
role in providing culturally diverse events across campus. These
OMIA units and others offer the entire University community opportunities
to share a variety of social, cultural, and academic events and
offer students from historically underrepresented backgrounds
a culturally similar and comfortable haven on campus. These units
and others collaborate to:
- Provide
events and activities that in addition to their academic value
offer a cultural environment that enriches the experiences of
all students;
- Consult
with various academic and student affairs units around issues
of diversity, student retention, and student development; o Provide
an opportunity for all students to engage in culturally diverse
activities and programs;
- Conduct
outreach and new initiatives that work with diverse communities,
inviting them to visit and engage in the intellectual and cultural
life of UConn;
-
And showcase a diversity of speakers and cultural events throughout
the year;
