Faculty
and staff at the University of Connecticut are represented by
2 unions. Faculty members are represented by the University of
Connecticut chapter of the American Association of University
Professors (AAUP). The UConn AAUP is dedicated to furthering “the
interest of all members of the bargaining unit without discrimination
by promoting the highest standards of excellence in teaching,
research, and public service.” The national chapter of AAUP
has represented university faculty members for over 80 years.
It’s primary mission it to maintain “quality in education
and academic freedom.” As an advocate for faculty members
the national association helps to ensure academic freedom and
due process for faculty members. The association also publishes
an annual report of faculty salaries and benefits. For more information

Staff
members have been represented by the University of Connecticut
Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) since the early 1970s.
UCPEA is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut,
the American Federation of Teachers, and the AFL-CIO. To become
a member you must sign a membership card. Members can attend membership
meetings, participate in professional development workshops, and
join in other social and professional union activities. For more
