Faculty and staff at the University of Connecticut are represented by 2 unions. Faculty members are represented by the University of Connecticut chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). The UConn AAUP is dedicated to furthering “the interest of all members of the bargaining unit without discrimination by promoting the highest standards of excellence in teaching, research, and public service.” The national chapter of AAUP has represented university faculty members for over 80 years. It’s primary mission it to maintain “quality in education and academic freedom.” As an advocate for faculty members the national association helps to ensure academic freedom and due process for faculty members. The association also publishes an annual report of faculty salaries and benefits. For more information on the UConn chapter you can visit their website www.uconnaaup.org. UConn AAUP can be reached by email at info@uconnaaup.org or by phone at (860) 487-0450.

Staff members have been represented by the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) since the early 1970s. UCPEA is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut, the American Federation of Teachers, and the AFL-CIO. To become a member you must sign a membership card. Members can attend membership meetings, participate in professional development workshops, and join in other social and professional union activities. For more information about UCPEA you can go to their website www.vm.uconn.edu/%7Eucpea, email them at uconn.professional@snet.net, or call them at (860)487-0850.
